Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport (ATH) - Guide to Athens (ATH) Airport

Getting around Athens has been made much easier with the introduction of the metro and tram systems. Other modes of transport include the bus and trolley lines and taxi cabs. The metro trains are frequent during rush hours, while off-peak hour trains run about every ten minutes. The metro closes at midnight and reopens at 05:30.

The modern tram system is mainly used by people travelling from the suburbs of Athens to the centre, while it also branches out along the coast. Good bus links are available to most destinations and taxis in Athens, which are yellow, can be picked up on the street or by phone. They are a cheap and convenient option when bus or other modes of transport are unavailable. Be aware that you may find yourself sharing a taxi with strangers on some journeys.

Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport is a new facility and was only completed in 2001. This new air hub is located 20 miles southeast of Athens' city centre.
